Fowey
Historic seafaring town. Boats of every description can be seen and a trip up river shows spectacular scenery which inspired many of the famous writers who loved Fowey.

Mevagissey
Still a working harbour. Boats from here bring back the skate, lobster, plaice and sole served in the many characterful pubs and restaurants.
The tiny streets winding past shops and cob cottages spill down to the distinctive twin harbours. The 'Lost Gardens of Heligan' are just to the north.
St Mawes
A popular sheltered sailing centre on the Roseland Peninsula. Often compared to a Mediterranean village, this is the place to take up your brushes and capture Cornwall on canvas.
Be sure to visit the St Just in Roseland Church, set in sub-tropical gardens. The King Harry Ferry takes you from here over the Fal River to Falmouth or Truro.
Lostwithiel
Once the 13th Century capital of Cornwall with Tudor bridge and Restormel Castle, besieged in the Civil War.
The ancient buildings along the narrow streets now house ancient shops where you can hunt for bargains. Though easily reached by road, a more picturesqe approach is from the River Fowey. The National Trust Lanhydrock House is just to the north.
Truro
Cornwall's county town and commercial centre with the three spires Cathedral, County Museum, Art Gallery and the Hall for Cornwall, a performing arts venue with year round programme.
The City of Truro is an excellent shopping centre with many restaurants and inns.

Travel to Cornwall by Road
The M4, M5 and M6 motorways have made travel to Cornwall simple and straightforward, while within Cornwall itself, the two major holiday routes, the A30 and A38 continue to improve, with fast dual carriageways as far as Bodmin, and most of the way to Penzance. The easiest way is to join the M5 which you then follow to Exeter, after which you take either the A30 or A38 into Cornwall, depending on your final destination. Surfing in Cornwall
Newquay is the capital of England's surfing scene with 11 beaches stretching over seven miles of golden sand, so it is not surprising that this one-time fishing village has transformed itself into the surfer's paradise.
The National Surfing Centre, Fistral Beach and the B.S.A. Surf School, Lusty Glaze Beach are owned and run directly by the British Surfing Association. (B.S.A.).

Please note that at peak times, particularly in the summer months, we recommend that where possible visitors should avoid travelling to Cornwall at weekends when traffic on the A30 over Goss Moor (just west of Bodmin) can be extremely busy.
